The dentist should look at all tooth surfaces as they normally do in every examination, but to be aware that erosion is a possibility, look at the cervical surfaces, look at the platelet surfaces or the lingual services of the upper incisors; and on the occlusional surfaces, the lower molars. To diagnose enamel wear is actually quite difficult because you're just looking at the color of enamel. But, once dentin becomes exposed, the color becomes an easy indicator. Look at the cervical margins to see if there's any dentin exposed that may or may not be associated with some sensitivity. Look at the platelet surface of the upper incisors to see if there's any cupping or the halo effect of the enamel being lost, exposing the underlying dentin. Look at the molars to see if there's any occlusal cupping.
